About Belhaven Dental Clinic

At Belhaven Dental Surgery our aim is to provide high quality dental care for the entire family in a welcoming and comfortable environment.

We are committed to providing high quality and consistent levels of dental care in a friendly and relaxed environment. We have happy, well-trained staff who work together as a team to make our patients as happy and as comfortable as possible.

We have 5 dentists, 2 dental therapists and 12 support staff. Several of our staff have gone on to have families and have returned to us part time.

Our staff receive continuous training and development ensuring they are well trained and up to date with the latest techniques and industry requirements.

We provide NHS dental care for children and for adults who do not normally pay for their treatment. For everyone else we offer an extensive range of dental treatment independent of the NHS including dentures, crowns and bridges as well as cosmetic treatments such as adult teeth straightening, teeth whitening and facial aesthetics. We are also able to offer a sedation service for some of our more nervous patients.

Meet the Team

Catherine Jones - BDS (Glas) 1996, GDC: 72059

Lead Dentist

I graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1996 and have been part of Belhaven Dental Clinic since it opened in 2005. As the clinic’s original owner, I led its development before passing the management over to Scottish Dental Care in 2023.

I’m passionate about mentoring new graduates and enjoy supporting them as they build confidence and develop their skills during their first year in practice.

What I love most about dentistry is forming long-term relationships with patients and discovering the unique stories behind every smile. I’m committed to making dental visits as relaxed and comfortable as possible.

In addition to general family dentistry, I offer adult teeth straightening using Invisalign aligners. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the boost in confidence that comes with a happier smile.

Outside the clinic, you’ll often find me paddleboarding - yes, even in winter - or enjoying live music whenever I can.

Correen Locke BDS (Glas) 2006, GDC: 103170

Associate Dentist

I graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2006. From there I furthered my training in community practices (treating exclusively adult special care patients and children), a hospital post specialising in restorative dentistry and in general practice, before joining Belhaven in 2009 as an associate dentist.
I enjoy all aspects of dentistry but have a keen interest in treating families and children with an emphasis on prevention.
Outside of work, I enjoy family time being a mum to two young children. Busy social weekends with friends and holidays to sunnier climates also put a smile on my face.

W.J.Ryan Kirk - BDS (Glas) 2006, GDC:103213

Dentist / Sedationist / Facial Aesthetic Practitioner

I joined Belhaven in August 2008. I thought I was the only male dentist that would be capable of coping with all these women, until Lyall joined the team! They all spoil me and I love it here, and feel like l've always been part of the team. Although I've learned quickly that making them lots of tea and baking them cakes keeps them on my side!

I love the chat with my girls and my patients, and this is a strong point for our practice, helping our patients feel at home and relaxed. As part of the wide range of services and treatments on offer at Belhaven, I do IV sedation to help with our anxious and nervous patients as well as providing facial aesthetic treatments for those looking for a fresher look.

I'm originally from Belfast but love the charm of the Scots, its home from home now!

Shauna Thomson

Associate Dentist

While obtaining my first degree in Genetics, I worked part-time as a dental nurse and fell in love with dentistry going on to graduate as a dentist from The University of Glasgow with Commendation in 2024.

I have been lucky to start my career in Belhaven Dental Clinic alongside talented colleagues who share my passion for holistic, patient-centered dentistry. I enjoy all aspects of dentistry, aiming to create a welcoming, relaxing and supportive environment for our patients.  Outside of dentistry, I enjoy reading, fitness, food and listening to music.

Patricia Logan

Associate Dentist

After initially completing a degree in Biomedical Sciences, Patricia went on to study Dentistry at the University of Aberdeen, graduating in 2018. Since qualifying, she has worked in a number of practices across the Scottish central belt and spent a year in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2021.

Before joining Belhaven, Patricia worked between Glasgow Dental Hospital’s Oral Surgery Department and the Community Dental Service, where she treated anxious and medically compromised patients. During this time, she also trained in the use of sedation techniques.

Patricia enjoys all aspects of general dentistry, with a particular interest in oral surgery. She gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Oral Surgery from the University of Bristol and is currently working towards a qualification in intravenous sedation to further support patients who are anxious about dental treatment.

Outside of work, Patricia loves spending time outdoors and enjoys going for walks with her beloved black Labrador, Percy.

Aleksandra Karpinska

Originally from Poland, Aleksandra moved to Scotland in 2013 to pursue her first degree in Biomedical Science and Anatomy at the University of Aberdeen. After spending a year working in clinical trials, she realised she wanted a more patient-centred career and went on to study Dentistry at the University of Glasgow, graduating in 2025.

Aleksandra particularly enjoys the opportunity dentistry provides to build meaningful rapport with patients. Belhaven Dental Clinic has been the perfect place for her to begin her career, offering a uniquely friendly and supportive environment in which to grow both professionally and personally.

Outside of work, Aleksandra enjoys cooking, catching up with friends and travelling back to Poland to spend time with family.

Karen McPherson, GDC:232429

Dental Nurse

Having joined in summer 2009, I qualified from Reid Kerr College in August 2012. I've never worked anywhere where we have so much fun and a laugh! Most importantly though, all our care and attention is given to our patients, and we always give them the best quality of care possible.
As well as working in the surgeries I enjoy assisting with reception duties. I'm also usually involved in any mischief going on.

Becky Proctor, GDC: 278423

Dental Therapist

Becky joined Belhaven in November 2022 following Shannon's move to be a bit closer to home.
Becky is a dental therapist providing a similar range of treatments to a hygienist but specialises in the use of the EMS Airflow to provide Guided Biofilm Therapy (or GBT for short). This is our new standard for private dental hygiene treatment.
Becky is also qualified (under the direction of our dentists) to provide preventive and restorative treatments for patients of all ages, such as fillings for kids and adults.

Nicola Hurst, GDC: 269759

Hygiene Therapist

My career in dentistry began in 2015 as a dental nurse, and in 2020, I decided to further my education by studying Oral Health Science. I graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2023 and soon after joined the team at Belhaven Dental Clinic.

Belhaven has been an incredibly supportive environment - I'm fortunate to work alongside such knowledgeable and passionate clinicians. It's not only a great place to grow professionally, but also a genuinely fun and friendly workplace.

Outside of the clinic, I enjoy unwinding by walking my dog, attending gigs, and soaking up live music. I’m also an avid traveller - so far, my favourite destination has been Riviera Maya, Mexico.
